Yes! Titans' Travels has a new chapter posted!

I am still completely wrapped in Second Life drama/role-play/and general goings-on. If anyone plays there, I am Quenild Resident (aka Quenild Tremayne, aka that scatterbrained twit). IM me, tell me who you are, I might accept a frending offer, or you can stop in at Enshannu Tavern in Ginsberg. I am not always there, but it is always open. Any filkers who play and want a place to show off their stuff are more than welcome. Set your tip jar out and invite your friends. Otherwise, I may have to go to heavy metal and too much of that gives me headaches.

Now, the real purpose of this post - the latest chapter is Chapter XXXXI - WTF!!! or Who's Shooting At Whom?!

Obligatory teaser: “Our Captain (she nodded to the black form on the road) and some of his Seraphim guards were on their way to meet us at the Roman camp. No one knows for certain except that it may have been to reinforce our party. Why that is, I don’t know. As he descended the hill he was struck by a bolt of energy from a then unknown source. It was powerful enough to actually ionize the air in Lucifer’s immediate vicinity. His guards were killed instantly. He staggered and was able to return fire, but two more strikes took him down. Several other Seraphim returned fire but struck only buildings. (I could see the smoke and steam rising from several holes in nearby walls.) Upon arriving at the shooter’s location, they found a heavy weapon. Subatomic scans revealed the assassin.”

Teaser: On about the eighth day after our arrival in Avanwy, I had just woke up and was getting dressed when a ruckus broke out outside my tent. I went outside to see what the matter was and was greeted by a very unexpected sight. In the open space, close to the fire pit, my men were staring slack jawed at a very impressive sight. At least twenty armored figures stood there in disciplined formation led by the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.

Hopefully the next chapter will not take as long to get to our two faithful readers. TTFN

We have given up any attempt to do regular updates to any of the stories, but we have been busy writing and plotting and creating.

The Roman View/Titans' Travels - TT is a sequel to TRV. I really need to go in and clean up the way it links together, but you can navigate through the chapters. Most recent post is Chapter XXXVIII - Who's Kidding Whom?.

Teaser: What I had just been told threw out everything I had believed in, the philosophers taught, or the priests preached. Our whole concept of the world and our place in it would have to be rewritten. I really hadn’t wanted to hear Seth’s words but I was left with no choice it seemed.

Ashantara Chronicles is still on hiatus.

Other-Wheres and Other-Whens just had a dump of about four chapters. I am still playing catch-up to get what is done so far onto the site.

Enshannu: The Eternus Prophecy - Book One is a story I am writing mainly for my own amusement to give a background on my Second Life avatar. If you are curious she is a half-human/half-Drow Queen, her brother and sister, who are in exile. She is a skin changer - she can change from human to Drow at will, but she cannot change shape.
Warning - the first chapter is very graphic and is not recommended for minors or people who might be triggered by sexual violence.

Genesis Wars is a prequel to The Roman View/Titans' Travels and Ashantara Chronicles.

Teaser: Some mornings just don’t start out the way you hope they will. Those were some of the thoughts running through my tired brain on that particular morning. The morning it all began. What . . . ? Sorry, I should introduce myself. My name is . . . was . . . will be (I get confused sometimes) Amon-Ra. Yes, THAT Amon-Ra. Lord of Avalon and, as things turned out, a short sighted fool. For those of you in the distant future who might be reading this, I give you my heartfelt apologies. My kind never meant to go as far off plan as we did. Such an apology probably won’t do you any good if you’re reading this in a cave somewhere by the light of a fire pit. Anyway, back to my story.

I will probably also be putting a page up for a friend I met in Second Life who writes short erotic fiction. I find them delightful and quirky, you may not. I am trying to figure out how to put an age-verification link to the site, but if I cannot find such soon, I will be posting them with a disclaimer.

Okay, we got Skyrim. I was very eager to get Skyrim. I was very glad we got the Collector's Edition. However, I got sidetracked by Second Life. I will play Skyrim soon. I will also play Skylanders soon. We picked that up the other day. I am doomed.

Delays occurred because: 1) Skyrim, 2) Second Life is the new obsession, which is a two-edged sword since it is a time suck, but playing on there is improving dialog writing and some descriptive prose, 3) we are working at our own pace due to lack of readership commentary. Oh well, life happens.

I am such a klutz.

I haven't yet folded the laundry, so this morning I got a clean pair of pants from the dryer and went through the laundry basket for a clean bra and underwear. As I turned (the basket is in the hall outside of my unkempt, messy office) my middle toe on my right foot caught on the throw rug* and I tripped/lost my balance**/fell. In so doing, I strained/twisted/sprained my left heel, sprained my middle toe on my right foot, sprained the little finger on my left hand and abandoned any dignity I had left.

So, I am now keeping track of what my heel is doing, will get an icepack later and bitch about it for a while.


*we put throw rugs over the carpet, with piddle pads under them, when Jessie was alive because, although housebroken, she piddled in the house. We have kept them there because it still saves the carpet.

I have many friends who deal daily with problems and pasts that seem overwhelming. I am also in that group. The following video link may be triggery even though the message is delivered only in text.

It is just after 5PM MDT, Sunday, July 24, 2011 and I am watching the Powers That Be getting ready to throw me and thousands of other expendable social parasites under the train by both parties.

Am I scared? You bet. Can I, or anyone who is in the same fix I am in, do anything about it? No.

Just like those who rounded up the social undesirables in Germany in the 1930's, no one is going to step up and protest until it affects them directly.

(I really need to get some newer pictures of Whitney. This one is from a few years ago.)

So, Whitney spent the day at the vet's so they could monitor her blood sugars and see if we needed to adjust her dose. Well, except for a hour or so at the groomers next door. Kind of nice having the vet next to the groomer.

Anyway, we dropped her off at 9AM, they took her over to her grooming appointment at 10 and she was taken back to the vet after her wash and nail trim. We picked her up at 5. I went and paid the groomer, then went back to the vet.

Well, the vet was a bit surprised and pleased. We have been giving her 6 units twice a day and her sugars were as follows: 9AM - 505; 11AM - 297; 1PM - 162; 3PM - 117; 5PM - 100. He said that it usually takes a couple of weeks for it to settle out rather than rebound. He did drop her dose to 5 units and wants to see her in about 4 weeks.

She has been really good about her shots. Since I don't like having dogs sleep on the bed (something my mother allowed), we put her on the bed, cuddle her (Michael holds her between us), I give her the shot, she gets a treat and then she gets off the bed, convinced that she has pulled one off on us. Fortunately the skin around her neck is loose enough that grabbing a bit between my fingers and poking the needle in is easy.

She is perkier and I know she feels better. She is already 10 years old (hard to believe we have had her for six years), but this should add some quality to her life.

ETA: I almost forgot to thank everyone who responded to the last post about her with positive energy. I'm sure it helped.

Whitney had an 'accident', the second in five days. In the same spot. She has also been drinking a lot of water. Like nearly a quart daily. And wanting to go out to pee a lot.

So, call to vet. Possibility put forth was that it may be a UTI. No one wanted to mention the other likely possibility. Yes, my dog is diabetic.

Insulin shots twice a day. Go back in one week, leave her at the vet for the day (who will take her next door for her grooming appointment) for periodic sugar tests.

Joy.

Did you think we had abandoned "Titans' Travels"?

No, we were just having a Very Severe Attack Of Life. As some may know, my wonderful Astro Van gave up the ghost. We could either afford to fix the damage from the accident or the engine, which died with no warning. Both was not an option. However, much to our amazement, we did qualify for a car loan. I now have a 2007 HHR (burgundy) that has claimed the name of Vyla.

So, back to our story.

When last we left our intrepid Roman General he had just been introduced to Merlyn, Governor of Avalon. Now, I think, the real fun is about to begin.

Teaser: As on other previous occasions, I’ve paused in this opus to comment on some of the really weird and bizarre things I’ve run into and seen on my little quest. Merlyn’s study was no exception. We walked through a paneled wooden door and into an area about the size of the floor of the Roman Coliseum. Okay; maybe I’m exaggerating somewhat, but not by much.

The artist who does "Two Lumps" needs assistance with vet bills. Please help if you can or boost the signal.

First - a moment of silent respect for a good companion that saw me (and sordak) through a lot of life chnages and was faithful until the end - the Chevy Astro Van (never did really name it). When several people see it and comment that spending over $4000 to fix both the problems - cosmetic and mechanical - would not be a wise investment, it is time to say good-bye.

So, after spending several hours at the dealership I now have a new(ish) vehicle. Pictures will be posted when we recover from the strain of the last few days. I am now the owner*/driver of an '06 Chevy HHR**, color Red. We now have two red cars in the driveway.

Yikes! Car payment debt. I hope we survive.


*Actually, due to the way the finances ran, sordak is the owner.

**I think that is shorthand in some alien language for "Tardis" as it is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

With all of the flack about Obama's birth certificate, what I want to see is Jesus' birth certificate.

I mean, Christians expect me to accept their word that Yeshua ben Yoseph was born as the son of God, but nowhere have I ever seen anything other than affidavits by questionable followers that such is the case.

Okay - over on MAWUT I am posting stories (got that - stories) done by a friend on her LJ (with her permission) under Other-wheres and Other-whens. The readership is very low, but, on occasion, the spam-bots leave droppings.

An online friend of mine and her SO have had a very rough, tragic and depressing couple of years. The most recent is that their septic tank has caved in.

omimouse and louisadkins cannot afford the cost of having it repaired and putting their waste water on the city/county waste system is something that can not be done without necessary funds.

From her response to my comment: Price estimates online (keep in mind we haven't gotten a contractor out here yet) swings from $3000 all the way to $25K. Hell, at this point, we really *are* looking at the city sewer hookup option. For some damn reason, they ran water to the house when it was built, but refused to run wastewater to the house. I've been told that some of our neighbours are on on city sewer, so I really have no clue. But we're on clay out here, and that's like the worst thing you could put a septic system in short of freakin' concrete.

Within the last week I have posted one new chapter for Titans' Travels and seven for Sidesteps in Other-wheres and Other-whens.

This concludes the first part of Other-wheres and Other-whens, which means I can start posting again to the current story-line, Alternate Universes. What I will do when my postings catch up to MDE's writing is a puzzlement. Oh, I also changed the background format on O-w&O-w simply because I found the other background annoying.

I did a review of Of Oysters, Pearls and Magic over at my writing blog - Make A Wish Upon Tomorrow.

Teaser: The title refers to the background notes of the story – a fishing village that depends on the oysters, and their pearls, that provide the main income/trade the village depends on to survive. Mirra is scorned in her village because she is a female who used power that was considered by the men to be theirs and theirs alone.

and just now had a chance to watch it. Best breakdown ever of what caused the deficit.

Situation: sordak and I finished proofing, editing and formatting The Roman View for readability on the Kindle in the hopes of garnering some interest in folks who might want their own copy.

Problem: The final draft is in a Word file. We know that Amazon (thus Kindle) will take a PDF file, however he (and probably me) only had a limited-use-before-you-buy on our new computers. I sent him the Word copy and he tried to put it in PDF format and got a PDF watermark on every page. (The annoyance is that there was no indication, as far as I know, that it was a limited use thing.

Question: I know that Adobe can do PDF files. I am fairly certain that I have purchased an Adobe usage package, I will have to check. How, in very simple, step by step instructions, do I drop the Word file into Adobe to create a PDF or is the PDF part of Adobe? I am very unclear on this and would appreciate being educated.

Am I going about this wrong? If this works for us, we might put The Roman View up for purchase on Kindle (including the chapter I missed putting on-line) and/or print-on-demand.

Peter Jackson is video-blogging the making of "The Hobbit"!

Yay!

I am currently re-editing The Roman View so that we can put it into a .pdf file so we can download it into our Kindles. This involves, for me because I am nit-picky about such things, spell-checking, formatting and general clean-up of the ms.

This also involves finding one huge, gigantic, glaring error that both sordak and I missed. Towards the end of the Roman's journal, one entire chapter! is missing. A vital chapter. Something that makes the last few chapters make sense and gives impetus to "Titans' Travels".

I don't know WordPress well enough to slip it into the storyline. I know that on DW and LJ I can re-date things so that it would fall into its proper placement. I don't know if WP has that capacity.

I am also strongly thinking about re-vamping "Titans' Travels" so that it has its own little niche, attached to but not linear to, "The Roman View". That, however, will have to wait until my brain is no longer mush from the current project.

So, once I get "The Roman View" into .pdf format, we will also be researching putting it up for a print-on-demand or Kindle download through Amazon. So, if anyone wants to read the missing chapter, they might have to purchase the novelette.

Well, Whitney got her bump removed today. She is now wearing a doggie onesie, and is very needy right now. So she is sticking close to sordak or me, which can result in accidently touching her incision. Poor baby is very sensitive.

Her teeth cleaning resulted in a few of her teeth being taken out because they were loose.

So, in about 14 days she gets the stitches removed and I will try to remember to take some newer pics of her.
