Most folks are probably unaware of the fact that I used to be a voracious reader. If I found a genre or author I liked, those books were like crack for me. And then I grew up and abandoned my reading habit in the pursuit of being a 'responsible adult'. I still read, but not as often as I would have liked to.
Recently, though, through a fortuitous set of circumstances I have been able to get a nearly complete series of wonderful books by one author and an Advanced Reader Copy from a new author. I have been in reading heaven.
The ARC is Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire (who is an amazing filksinger as well) and will be available on September 1, 2009. What I want to say is "Go! Order! Read! Enjoy!" because you will find October (Toby) Daye an enjoyable person to get to know. Well, half-fae and half-human changling who is a tough-as-nails PI recovering from missing 14 years of her life. Like many of us, she sometimes underestimates her value to friends and places her trust warily.
In this book, which is the first of three novels planned, she is commissioned to find the murderer of Evening Winterrose, know in the mortal world as Evelyn Winters, by Evening as she is dying. The twist and turns of the search will leave you breathless. The story will leave you exhilarated. The entire story is like riding a roller coaster. Now, I am going to go and finish my leisurely stroll through the second reading of this novel. I am catching nuances I missed on my first race through and still finding it as fresh and exciting as the first time.
So, Go! Order! Wait impatiently! Read! Enjoy! You won't be sorry. Or make sure your local library has it on their list of books to buy. And put your name at the top of the checkout list.
The series I read was books #2 through #5 of Merlin's Descendants by Irene Radford and I will post my thoughts on those later.
